Windows :: Freelancer Cheat Codes
God modeThis involves editing a game file. Always create a backup of the file first. Use a text editor to edit the "perfoptions.ini" file in the game folder. Change the "DIFFICULTY_SCALE = 1.00" line to "DIFFICULTY_SCALE = 0.00".
Finding secret bases and jump holes
When you are looking for hidden jump holes to other systems, turn on your Nav Map, then select the "Show Patrols" map. The lines that appear show popular paths that the AI ships use. Almost any path that stretches out beyond the normal trade-lane traffic of a star system will lead to a hidden starport or even a hidden jump hole. Fly out to where the line leads to and turn on the "Solars" option on your targeting computer. You will usually find a place of interest. However, in places with reduced sensor ranges you will probably have to rely on visually looking for something. Also, to find all the paths, make sure to look at the "neutral", "hostile" and "friendly" paths in the patrol paths map. Be wary of stumbling upon an enemy's base.
Easier battles
For slightly easier battles when attacking, select a hostile ship as your target then ignore that ship. Focus instead on the other hostiles but do not select them as a target. Even though they are not selected you will still be given the blindfire marker (the crosshair you aim with), although it will be smaller. Sometimes an untargeted hostile will just sit there, waiting to be shot. Other times, it will remain on a straight course and will not maneuver too much. The AI will eventually catch on to you and will alter its techniques or will send in more ships. Also, you will not be able to use missiles like this.

i need a cheat to help beat Dexter Hovis in the race please
all i did to beat dexter in the race was put the engines on gotoboost and lock onto the first gateas this is also the last gate then mouse fly around the course.make sure you have got anti missile devices for the last bit of the race.and you should win as long as you are close to him during the race as he stoppes near the end for the missiles
You only have to mouse fly and take every cornor better then that Dovis guy.. Eventually your flying the straight A to finish when you win
Use YA cruise engines make sure u have courtmeasure FlaresU can use them even when your weapons r disabled
how do you complete level 11 mission if you are no level 8 and without cheating.
To beat mission 11 without cheating is easy all i did was run around and let my allies do eveything for me sence severol of them cant die exc king and juni can never die for one ... a good way to avod hits is to enter cruise mode and freeflight with your mouse on one of the corners of the screen just be clouse to the gate to do this so when its cleared you can just enter allso you can do this tastic whenever your shilds are low as the computer AI cant seem to hit you in this mode in 5 mins of sitting there doing this i oley got hit ONCE
Michael u dnt need a cheat jus think lyk a driver go on the inside of the track simple as
I would be able to beat him but my cruise engines just cut out at random times during the race and ruin any hope I have of seeing the last few gates let alone beat him...does anyone else have this problem So frustrating
can't be done without cheating or a much better ship than the one you will arrive with ,like all of these games you need to geek or cheat.
I've just beaten Dexter Hovis, so I thought that I would offer my experiences. It took me some 50-60 goes before I managed it. I suspect people who like race games will find it much easier; but people who prefer exploration games (and so bought this one!) won't.
You do have to pass this one. Whatever you answer Hovis on the Hood, you aren't going anywhere further with this game until you beat him. But... you can tell him to get stuffed, fly back to New London and do a few missions killing Mollies at 3500 credits a pop until you get bored - and it does feel a bit aimless. Then come back to the Hood - the mission waypoints will still keep reappearing - go and see him and the game thinks you're there for the first time.
I arrived in a Heavy Fighter, but I really don't think it makes any difference what ship you fly, since you're in cruise mode throughout, so moving at fixed speed.
First, turn the music down to zero, sound effects very close to, and dialogue very close to as well, or you will be distracted at various points, "and you don't want that." You just need the voices at the edge of earshot.
At the start, it will display an "OK" dialogue box, and the race begins when you hit this. So you will get to hear the intro an amazing number of times. I couldn't take "<shrill>our very own...Dexter Hovis!!!" very many times at all, and calm is essential. So I positioned a book in the next room, and each time I restarted I went off and read a page or two, out of earshot, until the stupid intro was over and I was at OK again.
Have your left hand over the Shift-W. Click the OK, and instantly hit Shift-W. This takes you into cruise mode. Quickly move the mouse to the next ring, and hit spacebar. This takes you into freeflight (which is why you care which way you're pointing, i.e. where the mouse circle is), and the cruise engine only seems to get going then. If you do these three quickly, you have a chance to get ahead of Dexter Hovis at the first corner (although if you don't, it doesn't matter too much).
Navigation: as you move your mouse circle onto the next hoop, a purple diamond waypoint will appear in the hoop. Put your mouse circle on the top point of the diamond. That will always take you through the hoop without hitting the sides.
You will always hit hoops. If you do, hit F1 and go back to the start. You will not be able to return back through a hoop in time to beat Hovis.
Hovis allows you two goes at beating him without having to reload the Autosave. But the second go is worthless. You will be told "get back to the start point". But... you will still be in free flight mode, and you will have no idea where your mouse cursor was! So as soon as you go, you will probably be pointing the wrong way. You have to correct, hit Shift-W, etc -- and I never found it possible to do all this before Hovis shot off into the distance. Accept it, and just reload when things go wrong.
The first few attempts, you will be learning the course. Before you go through a hoop, note where the next hoop is. This is because after you have gone through you may not always be able to SEE the next hoop; and you need to move your mouse cursor that direction!
The key thing is to keep the mouse inside the hoops.
You should be able to beat him at the half-way point after a while. If you manage to beat him to the first corner, you're doing very well.
Mouse control is everything. I did it with a touchpad, which wasn't a lot of fun. I found it easier when I was eating crisps, for some reason. Over-correction is the usual problem; but you can't just lower the sensitivity because you haven't time to move the mouse to the next hoop that way.
If you hear the voice track say loudly "I don't beleeeve it" you're almost at the end. I got here a lot, and then crashed on a final hoop which seemed to appear end on. I never quite worked out what this was. I eventually resolved to get to that point, turn off my cruise engine, and just watch how Hovis took the hoop. But I never needed to; that time I was able to see hoop after hoop, and I never saw the end-on hoop, and I passed.
People talk online about getting shot at. I wasn't. It only happens if you deviate off.
Now you may imagine that the sensible thing to do is to learn the course by navigating without cruise engines. Unfortunately you'll do a couple of hoops and then the screen goes to the "Hovis has won!!!" sequence. You simply can't get far enough along to learn the course.
Why is the course difficult? Because the hoops are not just in a circle, they go up and down as well. The first few times you may well despair. Keep at it; you will get better. Point that cursor at the top of the diamond, and don't worry about anything else. Other ships, rocks, etc, may blow you out once or twice; mostly you can ignore them. Initially you will turn while still going through a loop; practise will avoid that (although you still need to turn as soon as possible). Follow the cursor.
You can do it. I'm not any kind of gamer, and I managed, in the end. I did find that I had to stop each time my hand started to shake, or if I started to tire.
I hope that helps. I was pretty annoyed at having my time wasted thus, tho. I didn't sign up for race games.
The game sequences afterwards straight into a combat mission, so do make sure you have a few thousands to buy missiles etc.
What aggrivates me is that my cruise engines cut out for no apparent reason, even if I'm ahead, behind, doesn't matter. Nothing hits me, I'm not off course, they just start to cycle again. Sometimes right after they've cycled. This guarantees me a loss every time. I can't beat the course no matter how well I take the corners or how much mouse control I have.
What can be done to keep constant cruise?
what do you do after you beat the nomads and after the talking after that? I can\'t level up anymore.
Here's a WORKING HOVIS RACE CHEAT I figured it out myself. Finally a sure way of beating this annoying mission..
The main reason this mission is annoying (especially with mods) is that there is no way to beat hovis in my USS voyager and I'm not about to buy a little fighter just for one mission and then go and find a decent ship again afterwards.
Go to your Freelancer game folder and in the DATA folder there is a file called CONSTANTS.INI
Edit the file and change the Cruise speed to 9000 like this:
[EngineEquipConsts]
CRUISING_SPEED = 9000
If there is already a CRUISING_SPEED in that section, just change the value to 9000..
When you race, don't use the cruise engine or you'll fly off in crazy velocity. Like hovis does when he races hahahaha
You can now just cruise around gently in your own time..
Don't forget to change the value back to normal, or delete the entry from the constants.ini
the easiest way to be sure you don't mess up your game (modded or not) is to back up the file before you edit it and replace with the backup after the mission..
